Our NE Portland Neighborhoods

I could talk about Copywriting or Marketing or your Website Problems but I’d thought I’d change it up because EVERYBODY in this business talks about the same thing..

Yes I know a lot of shitty things are happening right now in our neighborhoods and NE Portland in general and beyond but I can’t help but take a minute of appreciating the very reasons we all moved here in the first place..

What was it for you?The Parks and Green Spaces?Sense of Community?Shittons of activities and Community events?Mountains and Ocean a mere 2 hours away?

I don’t know about you, but I like living in a world where someone can walk through a neighborhood, smell and look at beautiful flowers and trees,catch a glimpse of local wildlife,(be it squirrels,rabbits or crows,not so sure about the Coyote thing.Natures order, I guess.)

I like a neighborhood where I can walk down the street and pause to take in a Poem and reflect on what someone displayed and garner inspiration as I continue to walk and explore.

And, if that’s not enough..I can choose if I’m lacking in reading material, a “mini-library” spaced out every so often…

So, with every outing I get literature,poetry and how-to books and beautiful houses and yards and Art.

How about randomly placed toys that child can play with if they happen to be passing by?Gotta love that openness and generosity..where else would you see that?

Without somebody ripping you off blind of everything you put out there for the public to use.

Seems to me not a bad deal in comparison to other neighborhoods or cities I’ve lived in..

The houses: what’s not to love?Beautiful, architectural, era-oriented construction that refuses to be compromised by new construction or architecture unless a modern architect or developer gets a whim up his or her tushy and stick some postmodern monstrosity in a vacant lot.

Portlanders have always been fascinated by the concept of turning or converting what was old into something new and re-branding it..or, preserving the prestige and history of what was ready to be abandoned and repurposing it. 

I like a neighborhood that has friendly neighbors fixing up their yards or waving “howdy” from their porches..

I like the fact that there is this deep sense of community and connection within the Sullivan’s Gulch,Irvington or Alameda neighborhoods and people are so welcoming and inviting to their street events.

I like that I can choose between an Ice Cream Social or a neighborhood Yard Sale and get updated by Sullivan’s Gulch about all the inner workings and sense of sharing and sense of connecting with the community.

I appreciate the creativity and mindset of my neighbors and their attempts in trying to improve a precarious situation right now in Portland.Make beautiful things,inspire positivity and connections.

KEEP PORTLAND WEIRD? It’s been a good slogan for generations now..and I think we’ve well gone beyond that nowadays..maybe we should update it to KEEP PORTLAND CREATIVE instead?

So, bring on your little pony horses, reminiscent of older times, mini-libraries free for the asking, your gorgeous gardens and flowers, poetry boxes and small yet everlasting wildlife of squirrels,rabbits and crows. 

Let’s NOT take for granted the beauty that’s right in front of us.I know it’s easy to forget because I hear and see the ugliness daily..instead, let’s focus on maintaining the aesthetics and “feel” of our great area that offers so much in comparison to other areas.
